You are on the road to being a great host!! These are some pointers that you will learn in training and with sensory overload will forget. So here they are, all neat and tidy for you so you will remember.
You will have noticed in our rooms that there is no drama and very few room issues with non-league players. We intend to keep it that way, therefore, any and all league discussions, issues with hosting, tourney set ups, etc. should be handled in either PC or in IM and NOT in the game rooms. If someone is trying to create problems in a game room, as hosting TD take charge and ask the Raiders to mute the troublemaker. DO NOT encourage or participate in arguing in main chat.
As well, the shout box on the main page is for fun and frivolity. It is not to chastise other TDs or players, correct behavior, discuss hosting issues or league business/issues other than JJP results. Any abuse will get you a warning, banned from the Cbox, possibly removed from TD and/or the league, depending on the severity. Since you've made it this far, you clearly agree with our rules and enjoy our lighthearted atmosphere, so I'm sure there will be no problems, we actually have very few!
Now on to actual tourney set up & hosting tips!
SEEDING: This should always be set to random. This determines how cases sets up the pairings, who gets the bye and the fairest way is random. Click on the change seeding box and change status from rating to random. If you forget to do this before you close, don't panic, complete the tourney.
DONATING BUX: If you would like to donate bux to the winner of your tourney. Go under edit tourney info. Halfway down the page there is a donate buxs box.
Free members can make 3 donations per month.
Gold members can make 4 donations per month!
Platinum members can make 7 donations per month!!
Diamond members can make 10 donations per month!!!
CUSTOMIZE TOURNEY LAYOUT: This is where you change the look of your tournament page. This is something you just have to play with. Resources listed on the main TD Set Up and Training page.
POST TOURNAMENT MESSAGE: If you have something really important to tell players you can post a message here. This displays on your tourney main page. This is where you put any special tourney instructions. Any tourney that is different from the normal, ie. open spaces, backwards, roulette, etc. must be noted here. This is where the players get information about the tourney.
POST RULES ON EVERY TOURNAMENT: It is very important that rules are put into the Rules Tab on your tournament. To put rules on a tourney, on the administer tourney page, click Customize Tournament Rules (right side under Edit Tournament Info) open your MACs and either run the mac directly into the rules box or copy and paste them in there. You also can post them on the main page or as the tournament message. This helps avoid issues with "fraudulent tourneys" with Cases
DELETING TOURNAMENTS: Make sure that you remove all players that have registered and delete the tournament if not enough players have registered. Deleting the tourney helps avoid issues with "fraudulent tourneys" with Cases.
SWISS PAIRINGS: Follow the guidelines that are at the bottom of pairings page. Make sure that you pair "like" wins. In other words, don’t have two pairs that are 1 win vs 0 wins. Pair the two 1 wins and 0 wins together. Occasionally, you will have players that play each other twice which is unavoidable in some cases. Do not change pairings if no blue!
ARRIVAL TIME: Always be in room at least 20 minutes before your tourney. If another TD is completing their tourney, ask that TD when you can run the join macs for your tourney. Do not run macs during countdown, pairings or results. Make sure to run the "Join the Twisted Raiders" mac at least once prior to the start of your tourney.
SPAMMING: Please do not run macs in any other rooms except the room you are hosting in. If you want to “advertise” it go to the other rooms that currently have a tournament running, chat with players and mention that you are having a tour, when and where. Please try to know when the next tour is after yours and mention it to the room, directing your players to that tournament. If we all do this it will be successful!!
SHARING THE ROOM: All of you have been really great at this and we thank you so much. If another TD is in the room doing a tourney, you need to ask each time if okay to run your ad. Ads do not need to be run but at least 15 minutes before tourney. If you are TDing in the room and know a tourney is coming up, please be considerate and tell the incoming TD how much longer you think you might be. Also tell them when they can run their ad since you know when you will need to run your own macs. Be advised we do share the Gin room with another league. Please be considerate and friendly as some of their players are also members of our league. If tourneys are going on at the same time, feel free to mute their TD and have their TD mute you.
STARTING: Tourneys are to be closed no earlier than 5 minutes and no later than 10 minutes after start time, using the Cases clock. This keeps tourneys on time and allows those who do not have exact Cases time the opportunity to get into your tourney.
NEWBIES: If new members are in the room and you are too busy or cannot really give them all the assistance they need, find another TD or Head TD and ask for assistance. Some of the players who have been here a long time will actually help them but do not put them on the spot. Make sure the new person gets the assistance they need and does not feel neglected. Also, remind the new players or even existing players to check out the newbie link on the main page when they have time. This contains a lot of information about the league, the main page & how to navigate it, general information and rules of the league.
RUNNING RULES: Tournament rules must be run before each tourney, prior closing. This will allow any player who does not like the rules to withdraw.
CHANGING MACS: Do not change any of the rule macs. Start Game you can make your own. Just make sure that it is clear when players are to start playing. One minute timer you can change the wording, however, do not change anything to do with the timing of the macs, this must stay uniform. You do not have to notify room of left time unless you want to. "I'm having a Tourney" you can make your own. If any ads are real wild please run them by a head td please. No more than 2-3 emoticons per mac. If you start the wrong macs or need your macs to stop, hit "esc" key.
SPINNING: This rule is mainly for Vaults or slots. Players should be spinning the entire game. You can randomly check stats on players to ensure this. Opponent has been advised via rules to alert host if player leaves room. If player is gone more than time stated in that games rules you will need to DQ them.
SCORES: The only scores you can accept are the ones after "STOP" and before the token line. Only exception is if there is a typo above. If player states spin, game specific as per macs, their score may then be accepted after the token line. Believe me we have all heard every excuse under the sun. It is not fair and creates some awkwardness if you accept a score and the next TD does not.
COMPLETION OF TOURNEY: Make sure you get it closed out and get the buxs moving in the mail. As well announce how many bux the winner gets and advise the rest are in the mail. You are doing this very well keep up the good work!
NON-LEAGUE PLAYERS(Roomies): Chat it up with these players. Have a great time while hosting!! The more fun you have the more these players will want to join our family!!
CHAT NO-NO'S: Please keep the explicit jokes and swearing to a minimum. Many players are offended due to religious beliefs, race, sexual orientation, etc. Please note that there are under age people in the rooms also. People can and do report incidences to POGO and they can suspend or ban your membership as we do not play in uncensored rooms. Try not to let the innuendo get too out of hand, especially during the day. Under no circumstances will racial slurs or jokes be tolerated. Any report and verification of this will result in your removal as TD!
WANT MORE PLAYERS IN YOUR TOURNEYS?
Post tourneys in advance. Players really do check the calendar for when tourneys are available. If these are posted before midnight they go out on a calendar to the members.
Most importantly have fun. Entertain and be friendly with your players while they are playing and they will come back for more.
We thank you all for all the hard work you do. If you have any questions, about any of these tips or need more help please see one of the Admins or Trainers.
